Random Webkinz Tips #4 

 Here are some more random Webkinz Tips!  I'm really starting to run out of them, but I managed to think of a few more for this post!  This is the fourth installment in my Webkinz Tips series. You can read my other tips posts here, here, and here.

Tip #1: If you buy a W-Shop item with a coupon that is worth more than 50% off, you can sell the item back to the W-Shop for a small profit.

Tip #2: I have said this before but it is a good trick: if you have two accounts, buy that day's rare item on both accounts.  That way you have one for yourself and one to trade.  The advantages of having multiple accounts are numerous; if you are adopting another pet, I highly suggest opening a free account and adopting the pet on that account instead of your main one.  You will get a free pet and PSI when you open up a free account.

Tip #3: Certain challenges require you to feed a particular food to your pet.  For a recent Winter challenge, for example, I had to feed my pet 5 Adventure Snack Bars.  If your pet is full and their hunger level at 100, and you feed the snack to them, they will refuse to eat it but it will still count towards the challenge.  You can then continue feeding it to them however many times is required, and they won't eat it but it will still count.  This is especially useful for when you have to feed your pet a special food that you have to go to the Clubhouse to get, for example.

Tip #4: If there are no jobs at the Employment Office that you're interested in doing, wait until the end of the hour.  Every hour the jobs change and new ones appear.

Tip #5: Check the Curio Shop even if you already bought the rare item that day and you know Arte isn't planning on selling more.  Certain items (like the Medieval Side Table and Trophy Pedestal, for example) are not technically rare items, but are part of rare themes.  They are called 'Arte's Favorite' items and they are available at random times throughout the day.

Tip #6: You can trade gems with Doug the Dog multiple times a day if you just switch pets. Go to Doug's Collector Room in the Clubhouse, trade with Doug, then go to the Arcade or your house, switch pets, and then go trade with Doug again. The same pet can't trade with Doug twice, and the prize levels start at the beginning (i.e. if you've been trading with Doug for a long time, and then trade with him with a new pet who hasn't traded with him before, you will receive the first prize: the Rocky Road Ice Cream Cone). Thus, you can earn duplicates of all Doug the Dog prizes!  Make sure to save your gems so you can trade with Doug.

Room Decorating: Before & After (Noah's Room)

I have decided to start a new room decorating series, Before & After.  In this series, I will show what a room looked like before I redecorated it, and then what it looks like after I redecorate!  The first room in this series is Noah's Room.  Noah is my Brown Dog.

By now, this is the only bedroom that has not been upgraded to a large room.  All my other pets have large rooms.  I actually quite like this design for a medium room, but I prefer to have my pet's bedrooms be large rooms so that they have more space.  I originally made this to be a Dex Dangerous themed room, and I think I will keep it like that.

After

As you can see, I bought a large room for Noah.  I also added a kitchen area, some more decorations, and an air hockey table.  I changed up the wallpaper too, and made the kitchen blue instead!

Webkinz Doug the Dog Prizes

Once you have collected several gems at the Curio Shop, you can trade them with Doug the Dog for cool prizes.  Simply go to the Clubhouse at a time Doug is there, go to Doug's Collector Room, click on Doug, and trade the gem he wants in exchange for a gem-related prize.  Doug is now in the Collector Room all day, so you can trade with him anytime.

Prizes (in order):

 

If it's your first time trading with Doug, he will ask you for a common gem.  Once you have been trading with Doug for a while, he will begin asking for multiple gems and / or uncommon or rare gems.

Tip: You can trade gems with Doug the Dog multiple times a day if you just switch pets. The same pet can't trade with Doug twice in the same day, but a different pet can. Simply trade with Doug and then go to the Arcade or your room and switch pets (you can't switch pets in the Clubhouse). Then, go back and trade with Doug again. Guide To Adopting Webkinz Pets

Which Pet to Adopt?

 

 

There are so many pets to choose from when adopting a new pet.  My favourite pets are the Signature pets, but those are also the most expensive.  There are a lot of things to consider when adopting a new pet: the type of pet, the price, the PSI, etc.

You can buy some pets directly or purchase most of them with E-Store points.  Every week a certain type of pet is on sale.  Some pets cost as little as $4!  Most pets sell for 10,000-16,000 E-Store points though (which is equivalent to about $10-16.)  I recommend buying the really cheap pets, the Pet of the Month, and the Signature pets.  However, the main criteria I use when selecting a pet is how good its PSI (pet specific item) is.  I usually choose pets that have the PSI's I want. 

Tip: If I don't like the pet but really like its PSI, I will adopt the pet on one of my secondary accounts and then mail its PSI to my main account.

Odds of Winning the Webkinz Wish of the Day

Odds of Winning the Wish of the Day

 

Every day, one Webkinz World member is supposedly awarded an exclusive item that they wished for at the Wish Factory.  You can make one Wish of the Day per day, and you can wish for any exclusive item no matter how many tokens it's worth.  I have personally made over 150 wishes of the day and I have never won. I have also made many wishes (maybe around 50?) on my secondary accounts.  In total I have made over 200 wishes.  That puts the odds of winning the Wish of the Day at about 0.5% (at least in my experience).  Those are not good odds.  However, since there are a ton of Webkinz World players and a lot of them probably make a Wish of the Day (I have no idea what the actual stats are on this though), the odds of winning are, unfortunately, most likely even lower in reality.  My guess is that the actual odds of winning are around 0.0001% (this would mean that 10,000 players made a Wish of the Day). This estimate is not based on concrete evidence however, so don't take it as absolute fact.  It could be higher, or it could be even lower (my guess).

As a result, I don't recommend completing the Wish of the Day unless you are a Deluxe member and are already going to the Wish Factory every day to spin the Deluxe Wheel of Wishes.  Even then, it's still kind of pointless and I don't really recommend it. I usually still make my Wish of the Day before I spin the wheel since it's right there when you arrive, but I wouldn't bother going to the Wish Factory at all if I wasn't already going there to spin the Deluxe Wheel of Wishes (except to deposit/spend tokens).  Wish of the Day is kind of a pointless activity, similar to Quick Draws and the Jellybean Challenge (though if you want to try winning the Jellybean Challenge, see my guide to doing so here).

I always wish for the Blue Flowery Green House because a) it's on the 1st page and is the easiest to click (this is my main reason for choosing it),  b) I have wanted it for a long time,  c) I haven't seen it on anyone's for-trade list or in the trading room, and  d) it costs 200 wish tokens so it will take me ages to save up enough wish tokens for it.  I don't expect to win it, though.

I recommend always wishing for an item that costs a ton of tokens, as you can just buy the smaller items yourself with tokens that you earn.  If you do win, it wouldn't be great if the item you got only costs 10 tokens.  However, I have no idea if wishing for the same item each time or if wishing for expensive items affects your odds of winning.  I assume it does not, as I see members win items that cost a ton of tokens all the time, but you never know.  I also don't know if it matters whether or not you choose the same item that the winner from the previous day won (I always choose a different item in this instance, just in case). 

Some exclusive items that cost over 100 tokens: Campkinz Platform Tent (180 tokens),  Campkinz Pool (300 tokens), Dreamy Daybed (150 tokens), Flowing Ribbons Four Poster Bed (300 tokens).

Here is a guide for what to sell and what not to sell on Webkinz World!  Almost all items and prizes can be sold back to the W-Shop for half their original value/price, though some items are very valuable and shouldn't be sold.  

See my guide for trading and the value of Webkinz items here.

Duplicates of most things (that you can easily win again or aren't worth trading)

Low value prizes/items that you don't like (from Today's Activities, daily log-in, etc)

Non-deluxe clothing that you don't like

Challenge prizes you don't like (like the smaller, less exciting prizes from the 1st or 2nd part of the challenge)

Examples of what not to sell:

Tip #1: Even if you don't want any of the items mentioned above, I still strongly recommend keeping them and trading them later. That's what I do.  I actually purposely buy extra rare items just to trade (I use my secondary accounts to do this).  Unless you are in serious need of immediate kinzcash, it's not worth it to sell these items. They are just too valuable and difficult to find, and worth a lot more than the kinzcash you will receive for them (especially exclusive items; for some reason these only sell for a couple hundred kc, though they're way more valuable than that).  It's better to trade these items for another valuable item that you do want.  You can trade in the Clubhouse obviously, but I also recommend using the Webkinz subreddit page or the Webkinz Newz trading forum to make trades.  Be patient!  Some items might sit in your storage room for awhile, but someone is likely going to want them at some point (especially as time goes by and the item becomes older and increases in value).  I have multiple storage rooms in my Webkinz house where I keep these items.  Sometimes, items from challenges are made into exclusive items after they have already been released.  Once I won several Dragonfly Wall Art pieces in a challenge and then sold them.  Now you can get them at the Wish Factory for over 30 tokens each!  I definitely regret selling them.

 

Tip #2: The only time I would ever recommend selling a rare item is if you need the money to buy a different rare item (that you want more) from the Curio Shop. Since you don't have much time to do that (>1hr), selling a rare item is a quick way to make the necessary kinzcash. However, I would recommend selling an expensive W-Shop item or two instead, as they can be repurchased far more easily.  I only recommend selling a rare item if you have a duplicate of it and haven't been able to trade it, and don't have any W-Shop items to sell.

Tip #3: As mentioned above, if you need kinzcash quickly, sell large W-Shop items (ex: a TV,  a pool, a stove, or a bed). These items cost the most kc so you will earn back more kinzcash and have to sell less things. It's better to sell one bed than two counters + a chair.  If I need to do this, I choose an item or two from an unfinished room rather than a completed one so I don't mess up any finished designs.

Tip #4: If you have multiple accounts and need kinzcash on one of them, buy three of the most expensive item you can find in the W-Shop and send them to the account that needs kinzcash (I believe the most expensive item is the Oak Paneled Pool), and then sell them on that account.  However, I only recommend doing this when you have a few W-Shop coupons, as you still technically lose kinzcash overall unless you buy the items with coupons that are worth 50% off or more.  See my post about the advantages of having more than one account here.

 

Tip #5: Again, as mentioned above, if you have an extra coupon that is worth more than 50% off (it must be worth at least 60% off or more) you can buy a really expensive W-Shop item and then sell it back right away for a small profit.

Tip #6: Some items can't be traded or sold, which is annoying. If you acquire an item that you don't like and you can't trade it or sell it, put it in a room in your house labelled "Storage" or "Stuff I Can't Sell."  I now have two rooms full of stuff I don't like but can't sell.  It doesn't matter how it looks; I just cram those rooms full of as many items as I can fit.  It's annoying, but this way those items don't take up space in my dock.  I also put wallpaper/flooring that I don't like + can't sell in these rooms.

It is known that the higher on the pyramid within each colour category a gem is, the more kinzcash you'll receive for it.

White gems are generally the most valuable, though common gems sell for very little regardless of colour.

The background colour of a mine corresponds to the rarest gem that can be found in it.  

Ex: the background colour of the Buried Bones mine is white, and the rarest gem that can be found in that mine is the white Webkinz Diamond.

Once you have collected all of the gems, you can obviously trade them for the Webkinz Crown of Wonder. If you already have one or if you don't like it, you can sell the Crown of Wonder for 2,250 kinzcash.  However, if you sell your gems instead, you will probably earn an average of about 250 kc for each rare gem and an average of about 100 kc for each uncommon gem. In total, you would earn about 2,200 kc (not including kinzcash from common gems) over time. I kept my estimates on the lower end, but even still, if you count the earnings from common gems, you would technically still earn more (or at least the same amount) by just selling all of your gems to Arte rather than keeping them and trading for + selling the Crown of Wonder.  However, you do get a lot of kinzcash all at once if you sell the crown, rather than a little bit over a long period of time like if you sell gems. Selling your gems is one way to establish rapport with Arte however (I think it helps you advance through the Curio Shop levels, though I'm not certain; tipping is definitely the better/quicker way to do this).

The prices Arte offers for different gems varies and is not the same each time, but here are some Webkinz World rumours regarding the prices he offers.

Rumours:

• The Gem of the Day usually sells for double its going rate, and then plummets in price the next day and is worth a lot less than normal. I don't know if this is true, but the Gem of the Day does always sell for more than it usually goes for.
• Sparkling rocks have gems in them (this isn't necessarily true, though rocks with two sparkles seem to often have gems).
• The Bat or the Spider in the cave will lead you to a gem.  This seems to be generally true, but not always. There is usually a common gem near where the Bat goes or where the Spider is, though not always and it's usually not a rare gem (in my experience, anyway).
  
• Arte offers you more kinzcash for a gem if you don't have it yet. This seems to be true based on my  experience.
  
• Being level 6 with Arte gets you higher sale prices for gems (I am level 6, and I don't find this to be noticeably true). 
• If you tip Arte 100 kc right before you do your gem hunt, you will get offered higher sale prices for the gem you find.  I have tried this, and it does seem to work (remember small tips offend Arte, so tip 100 kc).
• The Webkinz Diamond will sell for 1000 kc when it is the Gem of the Day (I'm not sure how true this is, as I only received 325 kc when I found the Webkinz Diamond yesterday, though it was not the Gem of the Day.  If it's true that the Gem of the Day sells for double its usual rate, then the Webkinz Diamond wouldn't sell for 1000 kc, as double its usual rate would be 650 kc).

These are just rumours, so don't take them as fact!

Tip: When I hunt for gems, I like to scroll to one of the ends of the caves and choose the furthest or second furthest rock. This doesn't always work, but then again there isn't a foolproof strategy for finding gems anyway (at least that I know of). But it's usually best to scroll a bit rather than just clicking on the first rock you see.  I also like to choose rocks that are extra sparkly and/or are near the Bat or Spider. Also, I find that it's worth it to search the cave that is the same colour as the Gem of the Day, so that you have a better chance of finding it.

Tip #1: Buy food items (tea cups, pies, etc) from the W-Shop or E-Store to put in your rooms (you can also get these as daily log-in / Wheel of Wow reward). They make kitchens/dining rooms look especially good. You can also get them in Jumbleberry fields as prizes (see example below).

Tip #2: Try basing a room around just one colour. I did that with my Pink Diner (see below).

Tip #3: Centre both wall decorations and furniture. It looks more symmetrical and thus pleasing to the eye.

Tip #4: Buy other small items to place in your rooms, like books, toys, card games, and flowers.

Tip #5: Large items are really useful for covering doors.  Personally, I find that rooms without any doors on the walls usually look the nicest (though doors sometimes look good incorporated into the room).  Since my house is very large now, I often don't have enough space on my map to position all of my rooms so that there are no doors on any of the walls. My solution to this is to place a large piece of furniture over the door so that it is hidden.  Make sure the item is large enough, however; see examples below.

Tip #6: Try basing a room off of a book / movie / TV show.  Make a room for a specific character or copy one of the rooms in the show.  I did this loosely with Gwendolyn's NYC Apartment (Gossip Girl) and Spot's Apartment (Big Bang Theory).  

Tip #7: Try starting with a specific item and basing the room around it.

Tip #8: Use outdoor items in indoor rooms.  This used to not be an option but it is now!

Tip #9: If you have E-Store points, buy a bed with them. If have a chance to buy a rare bed in the Curio Shop or choose one as a prize, do.  I find that the W-Shop is lacking in bed options (as is the E-Store, but at least there are more choices).

 

Tip #10: Design your rooms so that sections look good by themselves (i.e. you could take a screenshot of just that area and it would look nice on its own). For example, in an apartment, have a reading area, a sleeping area, and a kitchen, and make each area complete with decorations. 

Ex: One of the reading nooks in my Reading Room.

Tip #11: Use rugs and floor tiles. They make the floor look much better and make the room look cozier and more detailed. The more rugs the better. You can arrange floor tiles together to make one big rug as well. Also, don't place most furniture items over top of rugs as they cover it (though this can look good occasionally, especially with smaller items, in which case do it).  I like to place furniture around the rug. Rugs are also relatively inexpensive at the E-Store, and there is a decent variety of options.

Tip #12: Buy textured or patterned wallpaper/flooring instead of plain colours.  By textured, I mean wallpaper/flooring that is made to look like wood, stone, or brick. It adds more to the room. The Ancient Civilization wallpaper, for example, looks much better than just plain white paint, but is still a white shade. Wallpaper/flooring is also a good thing to buy at the E-Store, as there is a large selection and it is relatively inexpensive (about 100-2500 points each).

Examples of textured wallpaper: Ancient Civilization wallpaper/flooring, Café Playset wallpaper/flooring, Classic Gaming Room wallpaper/flooring, Medieval wallpaper/flooring.    

   

Tip #13: You don't have to use an item for its intended purpose. You can use a dining table as a desk, a kitchen counter as a table, or a bookshelf as a divider.

Tip #14: Check the 'More Stuff' section of the Decorating page in the W-Shop for random things to add to your rooms.

Tip #15: You can make one large window with multiple small ones.
